If you’re looking for a unique way to take in Ontario’s fall colours, this scenic historic train ride just outside Toronto is an experience you need to add to your bucket list!
The South Simcoe Railway’s Fall Colour Excursions are officially kicking off later this month on September 26, inviting passengers aboard restored 1920s vintage coaches for a journey through the changing trees of the Beeton Creek Valley.

Located in downtown Tottenham just an hour’s drive north of Toronto, Ontario’s pioneering steam heritage railway lets riders step back in time along a century-old rail line.
As the train rolls through rolling hills and crimson canopies, passengers get to hear informative commentary from the conductor detailing the rich history of the line and how railways helped shape the country.
Whether you’re a history buff looking to experience steam-era rail travel or simply searching for the ultimate autumn photo op, the hour-long trip offers a cozy, nostalgic escape into nature. After pulling back into the station, visitors can stroll through downtown Tottenham to check out local shops, grab a bite at nearby restaurants, or explore the neighbouring Tottenham Conservation Area.
Tickets for the excursion are remarkably affordable, priced at $17 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $9 for children. Because these seasonal rides are immensely popular and regularly sell out, advance reservations are strongly recommended.
The Fall Colour Excursions run on select weekend dates from September 26 through October 18, 2026, as well as Thanksgiving Monday on October 12, with five daily departures at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. Excursions depart from the South Simcoe Railway station on Mill Street West in downtown Tottenham.
