Saturday’s programming at the Good Mourning Festival, titled Together in Grief, focuses on connection and reflection. Visitors can take part in peer support sessions led by Bereaved Families of Ontario, explore the interactive Solace Cafe installation, and plant a tulip bulb in the Memorial Garden, with a suggested donation of $5.
The day also includes a Pet Memorial for those grieving beloved animals, sound healing sessions, and two performances of the musical play Herons and Humming Birds, scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Sunday shifts into Día de los Muertos, celebrating the lives of loved ones through remembrance, culture, and community. The day features performances by the Mexican Folk Ballet, an artisan mercado, and a food court serving Mexican and Latin American cuisine from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Visitors can also take part in sugar skull decorating ($30 per skull), paper mask making, and face painting, with activities designed for both children and adults.
Admission is free on both days, though select activities, including tulip planting and sugar skull decorating, require a small fee. The festival is supported by the City of Toronto‘s Cultural Festival Funding Program, the Government of Ontario’s Experience Ontario program, and the Government of Canada, bringing people together through shared experiences rooted in remembrance, reflection, and community.
