Holiday magic is in the air as Christmas nears!
Downtown Toronto is once again set to transform into a sprawling corridor of holiday cheer as the Original Santa Claus Parade returns to the city streets this November. Marking its 122nd edition, the beloved spectacle remains one of North America’s largest annual gatherings and holds the distinction of being the oldest continuous Santa Claus parade in the world.

More Than a Century of Tradition
The parade’s origins date back to 1904, when a lone Santa Claus strode from Union Station to the flagship Eaton’s department store on Queen Street. That promotional stunt evolved into the first official single-float procession on December 2, 1905. Over the decades, through two World Wars and the Great Depression, the parade expanded into an enduring cultural institution.
When retail giant Eaton’s ended its longtime sponsorship in 1982, Toronto’s business community and dedicated citizens rallied together with the “Save Our Parade” campaign, transforming the event into a nonprofit, community-backed tradition that persists today.

What to Expect on Parade Day
The roughly six-kilometre route winds through core downtown corridors, customarily skirting Queen’s Park and flowing down University Avenue, before wrapping up near the historic St. Lawrence Market. Spectators can expect dozens of handcrafted animated floats, lively marching bands, hundreds of costumed Celebrity Clowns, and the long-awaited grand finale featuring Santa Claus atop his sleigh.
Tips for Attending
The event is completely free to attend for spectators of all ages along the parade route. Bundle up and arrive early, because thousands of spectators are expected to line the streets to secure the best curbside viewing spots! For those unable to brave the November chill in person, the celebration will also be broadcast live across television and digital streams.
With street closures taking effect early across the downtown core, public transit is the most dependable travel option. Taking the TTC subway along Line 1 offers direct access to key viewing stations like Museum, Queen’s Park, St. Patrick, and Osgoode. Checking the parade’s official website ahead of Sunday morning is recommended to verify the finalized route map and road-closure schedule.

Toronto’s 122nd Original Santa Claus Parade will take place downtown on Sunday, November 22, kicking off at 12:30 p.m.
The parade route is expected to be announced in the coming days. Keep an eye on their website here!
