A perfect sunset framed by downtown skyscrapers. It’s one of Toronto’s most spectacular urban phenomenons, and it only happens a few times a year.
You may have heard of Manhattan’s famous “Manhattanhenge,” but our beloved city has a stunning version of its very own: Torontohenge.
Golden hour lovers and photographers flock to the streets for this rare celestial event, which sees the sun align perfectly with the city’s grid. And the final chance to see it in 2025 is happening this month.
What exactly is Torontohenge?
The term, coined by legendary astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, is a nod to Stonehenge, where the sun aligns perfectly with the ancient stones during the solstice. In our modern metropolis, the “stones” are the towering buildings lining our streets.
Torontohenge is that rare moment when the setting sun aligns flawlessly with Toronto’s east-west corridors, creating a breathtaking tunnel of light. For a few minutes, the sun dips right onto the horizon, perfectly nestled between the concrete canyons of the financial district and beyond.
How can you watch it?
This stunning spectacle is a photographer’s dream, but you don’t need a fancy camera to enjoy it. The final Torontohenge sunset of 2025 is set to take place on Saturday, October 25, at approximately 6:18 p.m.
