A beautiful new sauna and ice bath studio has just opened in Toronto, and the calming, warm atmosphere couldn’t come at a better time as the winter sets in.
Alter is the city’s latest wellness destination to focus on hot and cold exposure, featuring a spacious sauna, four-person ice baths, breathwork classes, and cozy lounge spaces to unwind in.
You can either opt for a drop-in session and experience the circuit at your own leisure, or book one of their two signature 60-minute classes, the Foundation or the Unwind, both of which are led by some of the most tenured meditation, breathwork, and yoga instructors in the city.
The Foundational class is ideal for all skill levels looking to perfect their practice, where a guide will lead you through simple breathwork techniques and movement patterns with the use of essential oils and downtempo music.
For those looking to slow down and release tension, try the Unwind class, which incorporates long, deep stretches, calming essential oils, and downregulating breathwork.
According to the founders, Alter’s mission is to “enhance Torontonians’ everyday lives” by creating a welcoming, community-oriented space, thus making hot and cold therapy more approachable.
Alter soft opens in Toronto’s College West neighbourhood on December 13 to Founding Members and their guests, and officially opens to the public on January 1, 2024.
Session packs are currently available at a discounted price, starting at $28 per session.
