As Toronto braces for a major heat wave to kick off summer, escaping the city for a refreshing daytrip is a must – and Byng Island Conservation Area in Dunnville is the perfect destination!
Located just 1.5 hours from Toronto, this scenic retreat offers a mix of nature, outdoor activities, and the largest outdoor swimming pool in all of Canada.
Spanning 190 hectares, Byng Island features lush Carolinian forests, creeks, wetlands, and direct access to both the Grand River and Lake Erie. But the crown jewel of the park is undoubtedly its massive outdoor pool, which stretches over two acres and can accommodate up to 1,000 swimmers at once.

Ideal for families and water-lovers alike, the pool includes a splash pad, shallow wading area, and a deep end with a diving board. It’s the ultimate way to beat the heat during the upcoming hot summer months.
The pool officially opened for the 2025 season on June 14 and will operate daily from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. until Labour Day, with the exception of Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when it closes for routine maintenance. Visitor capacity is limited, so early arrival is recommended. You can also check the pool’s real-time capacity updates on the park’s website to avoid disappointment.

Entry to the pool requires a $2.75 wristband per person, available on-site. Keep in mind that no floating objects or puddle jumpers are permitted, only CSA/ULC/UL lifejackets may be used. If you don’t own own, you can borrow them onsite at the pool.
Beyond swimming, the conservation area also offers volleyball courts, shaded picnic spots, and beautiful walking trails, making it a full-day getaway from the city.
