In the midst of another heat wave, Toronto has been sweltering as of late. One fantastic daytrip idea is to head to Byng Island Conservation Area, found in Dunnville around a 1.5 hour drive away.
The seasonal conservation area spans 190 hectares and has lush Carolinian forests, winding rivers, wetlands, and creeks, with access to the Grand River and Lake Erie.
One of Byng Island’s biggest draws however is its massive outdoor pool, which also happens to be the largest in Canada!
At a whopping two acres in size, the pool can hold up to 1000 people.
Complete with a splash pad and wading area for children, you’ll also find a diving board at the deep end of the pool.
After your swim, you can also play volleyball at one of the surrounding area courts, or have a picnic in between activities.
The pool officially opened for the 2024 season on June 15, and will remain open until Labour Day. The daily hours are from 11 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Keep in mind, the park closes the pool on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for maintenance, so plan your visit accordingly.
Daily total numbers of visitors are also limited, and access is not guaranteed if capacity is reached. Be sure to check out their real-time pool capacity information on their website here.
Wristbands are required to enter the pool, at a fee of $2.75 per person.
