If you’ve been dreaming of your next international getaway, owning a Canadian passport is making packing your bags a whole lot smoother.
The 20th anniversary edition of the Henley Passport Index has officially been released, and the Canadian passport is once again cementing its place among the world’s most powerful travel documents.
For the third year in a row, Canada is holding strong in seventh place globally. That coveted spot grants Canadian travellers seamless, visa-free access to a whopping 183 destinations around the globe.
Canada shares the seventh-place ranking with a handful of other nations, including Australia, New Zealand, Czechia, and Slovenia. We’re also continuing to outrank our neighbours to the south, with the United States trailing behind in 10th place.
While Singapore snagged the number-one overall spot with access to 192 destinations, the Canadian passport remains a true global heavy hitter. Over the two decades that the Henley Passport Index has been tracking global mobility, international travel options have expanded dramatically. Back in 2006, the average passport granted access to just 58 destinations without a visa; a number that has now nearly doubled to 108.
By contrast, Afghanistan takes the bottom spot on the list at 104th place, granting access to a mere 22 countries around the world.
Though Canada hit its all-time peak back in 2014 when it held second place worldwide, sitting safely inside the top 10 today still gives local globetrotters plenty of freedom to explore.
