Oh, Canada!
It appears we Canadians have a lot to be thankful, according to a new ranking of the world’s best countries by the U.S. News & World Report.
According to their latest 2024 Best Countries list, despite dropping two spots from its second-place position in 2023, we are still among the top five nations in the world at number four.
The study surveyed nearly 17,000 people globally, and the perceptions of 89 nations were evaluated based on attributes across ten categories such as heritage, adventure, cultural influence, power, and social purpose to determine the overall rankings.
The report highlights Canada’s emphasis on multiculturalism, stating that “Canadians pride themselves in encouraging all of their citizens to honour their own cultures.”
It also scored high in its subrankings of agility (its ability to adapt quickly and respond to whatever obstacles it faces), social purpose, and attributes for being friendly and religious freedom.
Our neighbours to the south claimed the third spot, which is the highest position the U.S. has ever achieved in the history of the report.
The top ten best countries in the world according to the study are as follows:
- Switzerland
- Japan
- United States
- Canada
- Australia
- Sweden
- Germany
- United Kingdom
- New Zealand
- Denmark
Switzerland claimed the number-one spot for its third consecutive year, excelling in areas like being open for business, safety, and low corruption.
