According to a new report, Canada has just ranked among the top 20 countries in the world!
The latest U.S. News & World Report’s Best Countries list just dropped for 2026, evaluating 100 nations across a variety of metrics. Canada came in at a solid 19th place overall, just after the United States in 18th position.
While we’ve seen higher placements in previous years, Canada still shines as a global leader in certain categories.
The 2026 report analyzed everything from economic development and governance to infrastructure and “Civic Health.” Canada’s standout performance this year however was in Culture and Tourism, where we landed our highest scores.
The report also highlighted our national policy of multiculturalism, noting that Canada’s dedication to celebrating diversity is a major part of its global appeal. Beyond our values, our famous cultural exports, from the literary works of Margaret Atwood to the chart-topping hits of artists like Drake and Avril Lavigne, continue to bolster our international influence.
While Canada earned an impressive overall score of 69.5 out of 100, a few other nations managed to snag the podium spots.
Here are the top ten countries for 2026, according to the report:
- Switzerland
- Denmark
- Sweden
- Germany
- Netherlands
- Norway
- United Kingdom
- Finland
- Luxembourg
- Austria
It wasn’t all glowing reviews, however. The report pointed out a few areas where Canada has some work to do. Our lowest marks were tied to the natural environment, civic health, and economic development. Despite these hurdles, Canada remains a top-five global destination for higher education, proving that our schools are still a major draw for talent worldwide.
