Canatara Beach is located within Canatara Park, a nearly 200-acre waterfront park that has been a favourite gathering place in Sarnia since the 1930s. Its shoreline begins with soft golden sand before gradually giving way to smooth, wave-washed stones at the southern end, offering a different experience as you explore.
During the summer, lifeguards are on duty, accessible beach matting makes it easier for wheelchairs and strollers to reach the water, and the exceptionally clean shoreline makes it an ideal spot for a swim.
What keeps people coming back is everything beyond the beach. Just steps from the shoreline, Canatara Park is home to a children’s animal farm operated in partnership with the Sarnia & District Humane Society, along with a BMX track, a miniature train for younger visitors, and forested trails perfect for an afternoon walk.

The park also hosts seasonal events. It hosts Sarnia’s Canada Day celebrations each year, while the bandshell hosts concerts and community events throughout the summer.
Canatara Beach is the kind of place that’s easy to spend an entire day. Pack a picnic for one of the shaded pavilions, bring a kayak to explore the Lake Huron shoreline, or simply watch freighters travel between Lake Huron and the St. Clair River.
Free parking is available throughout Canatara Park, with additional street parking nearby. The park is just 10 minutes from downtown Sarnia. Despite its Blue Flag status and convenient location, weekdays are often quieter than weekends, making it an ideal time to visit.
