New Candlelight Programmes
The concert series has been infused with a fresh wave of excitement as it introduces captivating new programmes to its repertoire. This season, Candlelight is giving some of the most influential contemporary artists a classical glow-up, offering a dynamic blend of classic hits and innovation. Whether you like dancing to the upbeat songs of Rihanna, get a good dose of girl power with a Spice Girls tribute or immerse yourself in the music of Nirvana, each performance invites audiences to an exciting journey of musical expression.
Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the most notable composers of the late Baroque period, who has influenced a huge number of other classical and contemporary artists, The Beatles being one of them. He particularly inspired the bass guitarist of the Fab Four, when he wrote the song “Blackbird”. Paul used the refrain of Bach’s “Bourrée” to create a metaphor for the difficult moments of the late 1960s in the US and the whole world.
However, it is said that George Martin, the producer of The Beatles’ original albums, often referred to as the “Fifth Beatle”, would also share classical music with the lads. So, it seems that the genre lived in the band’s veins. This season, catch a special tribute to Bach and The Beatles and hear Brandenburg Concerto no. 3 in G Major, BWV 1048: I. Allegro, as well as “I Want to Hold Your Hand”, “Yesterday”, “Blackbird” and “Come Together”, among others.
ABBA fans will be delighted to hear that an enchanting Candlelight tribute to the super group is heading to Metropolitan Community Church this November. “Waterloo”, “Fernando”, “Knowing Me, Knowing You” and many more chart-topping hits will be gracing this remarkable venue for an evening of breathtaking live music performed by Listeso String Quartet. Unleash your inner dancing queen and hear the best of the Swedish group at this magnificent tribute concert that you’re sure to remember long after the final note is played.
