Perhaps one of the best underground rhymers of all time, MF DOOM’s influence on hip-hop is still felt to this day. His mysterious persona allowed him to come up with a fictional anti-hero narrative using intelligent wordplay about everyday struggles and obscure references. The British-American rapper’s songs have an improvisational feel, mirroring jazz’s gritty style. This season, Candlelight Jazz in Toronto will draw music lovers into MF DOOM’s world in a one-off collaboration with Lavender Town.
Featuring a mix of MF DOOM’s jazz-infused hip-hop beats from Mm…Food and Operation: Doomsday, popular songs by Kendrick Lamar and Anderson .Paak, and the Toronto-based band’s heavy funk and alternative jazz fusion, this Candlelight tribute is a celebration of authenticity. The concert will take place at The Paradise Theatre in Bloorcourt, whose stage will be covered with thousands of twinkling candles, making it a breathtaking multi-sensory experience you won’t want to miss.
