Toronto is officially getting a new public green space, bringing a stunning escape full of cultural beauty to the city’s east end.
The Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (CCCGT) recently broke ground on the highly anticipated Asian Garden, which organizers say will become the largest Chinese garden in all of Ontario. Spanning 1.5 acres in Scarborough, the urban oasis is designed to be a year-round attraction and a striking new landmark for the GTA.

The initial concept for the project actually dates back to 1994, making the official launch a monumental milestone decades in the making. Once completed, the space will seamlessly blend nature and heritage, featuring traditional Chinese landscaping elements like sculpted stone arrangements, flowing water features, and handcrafted pavilions.
Beyond its calming greenery, the garden will serve as both a serene public park and an interactive “living classroom.” Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in Chinese philosophy, architecture, and horticulture through dedicated educational hubs and community programming.

While the park will be free for visitors to walk through, bringing the vision to life has been a massive collaborative effort. The project has already secured over $5 million in joint public funding from the federal and provincial governments, alongside nearly $3 million raised through passionate community fundraising and private donations.
The new garden will be located right at the CCCGT campus at 5183 Sheppard Ave. E. in Scarborough. Construction is currently underway, and the stunning landmark is expected to officially open its gates to the public by the end of 2028.
