Spooky season is just around the corner, and if you’re looking for another way to get in the Halloween spirit, how does a free horror movie screening sound?
This October, Toronto’s historic Distillery District will be hosting four Halloween-themed movie nights, presented by Soulpepper Theatre Company at the Yonge Centre for the Performing Arts.
In addition to free admission, attendees can also take advantage of discounted beer and wine from Stage Door Cafe.
The theatre, which typically hosts plays, will welcome guests to watch a variety of cult-classic films during their Spooky Season Month.
“Spooky Season Movie Month is a great place to dip your toes into horror if you’re new to (or nervous about) the genre, and a gift to the true believers,” the website states.
Happening every Friday evening in October, the community theatre will screen a different “staff favourite” horror film, kicking off with Stanley Kubrick’s iconic The Shining (1980).
Following that is Funny Games (2007), the American remake of the Austrian psychological horror, starring Naomi Watts.
Next on the list is the dark comedy Ready or Not (2019), featuring Samara Weaving where a bride’s wedding night at her new in-law’s luxurious estate takes a sinister turn.
Rounding off the month, the final screening will be Ari Aster’s unsettling horror Midsommar (2019), starring Oscar-nominated actress Florence Pugh.
The screenings will take place at the Yonge Centre for the Performing Arts on October 4, 11, 18, with the final one on October 25.
Due to high demand and limited capacity, reserve your seats in advance online to ensure a spot.
