As this timeline continues to unravel in weird, unprecedented ways, more often does the unexpected become the norm.

To thicken the strangeness of the plot, Toronto Mayor, John Tory, has declared the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy essential workers.

Asked about declaring Easter Bunny & Tooth Fairy essential as NZ did. Confirmed of course the Easter Bunny & Tooth Fairy are essential workers in Toronto. Asked @fordnation to make sure they are essential provincewide as well. Thanks to everyone planning to #StayHome for Easter.

The Mayor took to Twitter to officially announce his declaration: “Of course the Easter Bunny & Tooth Fairy are essential workers in Toronto.”

Tory’s decision was inspired by Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s Prime Minister, who deemed the two mythical creatures essential yesterday.

In the tweet, Tory also asked Premier, Doug Ford, to do the same: “Asked #fordnation to make sure they are essential provincewide as well. Thanks to everyone planning to #StayHome for Easter,” he wrote.

With many businesses, stores, and individuals in an economic panic as a result of city-wide shutdown of non-essential establishments, the declaration was not taken so well by some.

How about the 700 residents as well as businesses that haven’t had power since Sunday night? We stay home with no light, no heat and have had to throw out our groceries. And your priority is with the Easter Bunny? How insulting!

While others took the information a little more playfully.

And then some outright adored the message.

I think that is a wonderful idea letting the kids know about the Easter bunny and the Tooth fairy being essential workers. Very important at this point in time…may lower their stress levels some, which in return will help parents.
