Toronto, get ready to collectively breathe out a sigh of relief, as winter is finally on it’s way out.
While we’ve been slowly gaining minutes since the winter solstice, the most dramatic shift is set to arrive with the return of Daylight Saving Time. On Sunday, March 8, 2026, Toronto will “spring forward,” shifting their clocks ahead by one hour.
Although the loss of an hour of sleep is a common seasonal gripe, the payoff is immediate: the city will witness its first 7 p.m. sunset of the year. In fact, on that first Sunday of the time change, the sun is scheduled to dip below the horizon at 7:15 p.m., providing a much-needed boost of evening energy.
Of course, the change also means our mornings will stay darker for a little while longer, with the sun rising closer to 7:40 a.m. However, for most, the trade-off of a glowing evening sky is a small price to pay.
Clocks will officially jump forward at 2:00 a.m. on March 8, so be sure to double-check any manual timepieces before you head to bed on Saturday night. Your smartphone and computer should handle the heavy lifting for you, leaving you with nothing to do but plan how you’ll spend that extra hour of evening light.
Spring officially arrives on Friday, March 20, and I don’t know about you, but I’m sure ready to say goodbye to the winter we’ve had!
