The waterfront is looking a little different these days as we get closer to welcoming the FIFA World Cup!
If you happen to take a lakeside stroll by Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre, you might pass by what will soon become Sport Chek Harbourfront FC – a fully interactive fan experience featuring Canada’s first-ever floating futsal pitch.
The new waterfront attraction, spanning nearly 130 feet in length, will take shape directly on the lake. The unique, scaled-down field will float right out over the harbour, transformed into a temporary installation ready to host small-sided, five-on-five matches for all anyone who wants to step off the land and onto the water.
Visitors will get the chance to play on a one-of-a-kind floating surface, which caters to soccer enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Running from June 11 until July 19, the outdoor destination aims to bring people closer to the sport.
The entire experience is also completely free, but you’ll want to plan ahead if you want to lace up your boots. Guests can enjoy a mix of open, first-come, first-served play and limited, bookable 60-minute sessions on the pitch. Besides the floating pitch, the interactive festival space will also feature a variety of retail pop-ups, games, and immersive fan activations.
Sport Chek Harbourfront FC will be located at 235 Queens Quay W., with the floating pitch scheduled to open on June 11 – just one day before Toronto’s historic first World Cup match kicks off.
You can already find more details and reserve your spot for June sessions online on the Sport Chek website.
Besides the floating field, you can also catch the official FIFA Fan Festival nearby at Fort York and The Bentway to catch live match screenings all summer long.
