While most locals flock to the manicured lawns of High Park, Glen Stewart Ravine is a secret sanctuary tucked away in the Beaches neighbourhood that feels entirely removed from the modern world.
Stepping onto the trail is like walking through a portal. The moment you descend the steep wooden staircase off Kingston Road, the roar of traffic vanishes, replaced by the gentle babble of a spring-fed creek and the rustle of leaves. You discover yourself swallowed by a rare Carolinian forest, a lush canopy of towering red oaks, sugar maples, and delicate witch hazel that completely blocks out the city skyline.

The magic of this space lies in its elevated wooden boardwalk, which winds gracefully over the fragile wetland floor. It allows you to float above the ferns and moss-covered logs without disturbing the delicate ecosystem below.
It is a short walk (just over a kilometre), but it is profoundly atmospheric. You might spot a downy woodpecker darting between branches or simply lose yourself in the profound quiet.
Glen Stewart Ravine is not a place for an intense workout but rather a quiet pilgrimage. If you need to breathe, to genuinely disconnect without ever leaving the city limits, this hidden valley is waiting to catch you.
