Our holiday plans seem to keep growing this year, with tons of magical markets, pop-ups, and events happening all season long.
A brand new winter experience to add to your list is Winterfest, a holiday-themed festival set to transform Harbourfront Centre into a magical winter wonderland.
Combining the best of seasonal markets, light displays, and holiday activities, Winterfest promises to be an exciting addition to the city, bringing back some beloved features like the outdoor skating rink, along with some exciting new attractions.
Starting November 29, 2024, Winterfest will kick off with the Harbourfront’s first tree-lighting ceremony in 50 years, taking place at 7 p.m. Running every weekend from Friday to Sunday until January 5, 2025, this free festival will be packed with seasonal delights for everyone to enjoy.
Here are some of the festival’s highlights to look forwards to:
- Outdoor Skating Rink: After announcements last year that it would be closed permanently, the Harbourfront Centre’s iconic skating rink is making a surprise comeback. Weekend DJ skate nights will also return, adding a lively atmosphere to the rink.
- Artisan Markets: Indoor and outdoor artisan markets will showcase unique holiday gifts, crafts, and local products, offering a perfect shopping experience for visitors.
- Food Trucks and Pop-Ups: Enjoy delicious eats from a variety of food trucks and pop-up vendors, offering seasonal treats like hot chocolate, mulled wine, and gourmet snacks.
- 30-Foot Tall Tree: A spectacular 30-foot tall holiday tree perfect for capturing the ultimate festive selfie.
- Fire Pits for Marshmallow Roasting: Cozy up by the fire pits and roast marshmallows for a classic winter treat.
- Light Displays and Selfie Stations: The grounds will be adorned with sparkling light displays, including a stunning 60-foot light tunnel, creating picture-perfect moments throughout the festival.
- Winter Express Train Rides: Hop on the Winter Express for a charming train ride experience, great for kids and families.
- Nordic-Themed Mulled Wine Bar: Warm up with a cup of mulled wine at the Nordic-themed bar, adding a touch of European charm to your night out.

Winterfest will also host a number of themed weekends throughout December, offering even more festive fun:

- Hot Chocolate Festival: December 21-22
- New Year’s Eve Fireworks: On December 31, the festivities will culminate with a dazzling fireworks display from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. ringing in the New Year in style.
