If you’re searching for an end-of-summer road trip idea for this coming weekend, a two hour drive from Toronto will take you to a one-of-a-kind festival where a kaleidoscope of colour fills the skies.
Ontario’s largest kite festival, the Hopeville Kite Festival, is taking over Grey County once again. Featuring 24 professional kite fliers from across North America, mega-kites reaching up to 50 feet in size will take flight, complete with gigantic 200-foot tails soaring overhead.
The mesmerizing aerial displays will include synchronized performances set to music by the Windjammers International Kite Team. Besides the show, the event caters to attendees of all ages with interactive bubble stations, local live music, a Hands on Exotics animal show, and dedicated spaces where you can bring your own kite for a sky-high spin.
The festival is also completely free to attend, though pay-what-you-can donations are welcomed to support the community event. Guests can also explore a market with over 25 local craft vendors and food trucks serving up delicious treats throughout the afternoon.
The Hopeville Kite Festival will take place just outside Hopeville (near Dundalk) on August 29 and 30, running from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily. You can find out more here on their website.
