Most fall colour outings keep you on the ground, but this one takes you 30 feet into the treetops above the Niagara Escarpment. At Kelso Conservation Area, visitors can tackle a high ropes course of suspended planks, ropes, and cables while taking in views of the Niagara Escarpment and the surrounding forest in fall colours.
Designed to test balance, coordination, and confidence, the Challenge Course features obstacles that gradually increase in difficulty. All participants complete a ground-school training session before climbing, and helmets and harnesses are provided. The one-hour experience gives visitors plenty of time to work through multiple challenges.
Also on-site is Vulture’s View, a climbing tower with rope ladders, tire climbs, and climbing walls that rise more than 45 feet above the ground, offering another impressive vantage point of the surrounding forest. Those looking to stay on the ground can try Eagle’s Eye Archery, a 30-minute guided session with equipment and instruction included.
The Challenge Course is not suitable for anyone who is pregnant or has a heart condition, and those uncomfortable with heights may prefer the archery experience. Closed-toe shoes are required, athletic clothing is recommended, and reservations are strongly advised during peak fall colour season.
