Little Free Art Gallery began as a simple idea from a local artist known as the Stealth Art Collective. The artist proposed the concept to the town’s cultural services team. Inspired by the Little Free Library model, it swaps books for original artwork. This creates a space where anyone can leave or discover original artwork.
The idea quickly gained momentum, leading to a second, larger gallery at the town’s seniors’ centre. Filled with artwork created by members of the Aurora Seniors’ Centre, it shows how this community-driven concept has grown beyond its original trail-side installation.
What to Expect
What makes this tiny gallery so special is its simplicity. The artwork is intentionally small, around three by three inches, making it easy for anyone to contribute. Beyond a few basic guidelines, like using non-toxic materials and keeping submissions family-friendly, contributors are free to create whatever they like.
Follow the trail to the fork in Aurora Town Park, open the tiny gallery door, and you’ll never know what you’ll discover. One visit might reveal a miniature watercolour, the next a child’s drawing, a painted stone, or a tiny clay sculpture. Each one is a unique creation left behind for the next visitor to enjoy.
It’s a fun stop for families, especially younger kids, who will love discovering a free piece of art to take home.
