If you’ve ever wanted to step inside a “portal” to a future that feels both hauntingly alien and uncomfortably familiar, you’re in luck. This June, Toronto’s Four Seasons Centre is transforming into the post-apocalyptic wilderness of Margaret Atwood’s imagination. MADDADDAM is a visceral, high-octane interpretation of a world reclaimed by nature and bio-engineering.
Choreographer Wayne McGregor and Max Richter have created an experience that feels more like a cinematic fever dream than a traditional stage show. You’ll be swept from the quiet, lonely shores where Jimmy (the last real human) wanders, into the glitchy, high-stakes digital world of Extinctathon. The visuals are simply stunning. You can expect massive digital projections of a distorted Toronto and avant-garde costumes by Gareth Pugh that bring pigoons and green-skinned humanoids to life.

It’s not the only innovative ballet in town
Ballet of Lights brings fairy tales like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty to life using choreography and fibre-optic costumes. As the ballerinas pirouette and twirl, the costumes dance with them, creating a kaleidoscope of color you just have to see to believe.
