Neo Soul took the world by storm in the 1990s by blending the emotion of classic Soul with genres like R&B, Jazz and Hip-Hop, creating a sound that feels both timeless and fresh. With artists like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and D’Angelo in the forefront, the genre thrived on poetic lyricism and powerful voices. This season, the Candlelight series in Toronto is gifting music fans a soulful tribute to iconic Neo Soul artists like Jill Scott, Angie Stone and Lauryn Hill, by coming together with talented singer Nicole Chambers.
As you’re surrounded by thousands of twinkling candles inside the historic Paradise Theatre, you can hear “Long walk”, “Wish I Didn’t Love You” and “Can’t Take My Eyes off of You”, alongside the Canadian singer-songwriter’s original songs, such as “Heavenly Bodies”. Accompanied by a live band, expect to experience the best of today’s Toronto music scene.
Candlelight: Jill Scott, Angie Stone and the Best of Neo Soul feat. Nicole Chambers
This season, Candlelight invites you to enjoy some of the most iconic melodies in Neo Soul, recreated by Nicole Chambers and her band. The Canadian singer-songwriter has achieved great success since the release of her debut studio album Voice of a Virgo (2020) that showcases her ability to combine soulful melodies with introspective lyrics, much like the pioneers of the genre.
With a setlist based on Neo Soul favourites like “Long Walk” by Jill Scott and “Everyday” by the late Angie Stone, as well as her original songs, such as “Timeless” and “Heavenly Bodies”, you’ll be in for a soulful escape unlike any other.
Whether you’re a fan of Nicole Chambers, you love smooth grooves or enjoy a thought-provoking lyric or two, this Candlelight tribute to legends of Neo Soul is right up your alley.
There will be two back-to-back performances scheduled for 6:30pm and 8:45pm. Doors open 45 minutes prior to the start of each concert.
