The smoky, mouthwatering aroma of slow-cooked brisket and tangy barbecue sauce won’t be wafting through Lakeview Park this summer.
For the past 25 years, the Oshawa Rotary Ribfest has been a staple of the season that officially signalled the height of summer in Durham Region. However, organizers have officially shared the bittersweet news that it won’t be back for 2026.

After a quarter-century of serving up award-winning ribs and live entertainment, the Rotary Club of Oshawa announced that the festival is taking a break. The decision wasn’t made lightly, with the committee citing a combination of rising operational costs, economic uncertainty, and a decline in the corporate sponsorships that help keep the massive event running smoothly.
While the festival is a highlight for the 30,000 visitors who attend annually, its true mission has always been community support. Since its debut in 2002, the event has raised nearly $1 million for local charities, student scholarships, and essential programs like the 151 Chadburn Air Cadet Squadron.
The good news? This isn’t necessarily a final goodbye. Organizers are viewing 2026 as a year to “regroup and reassess,” with the ultimate goal of bringing the ribs, the rides, and the music back to the waterfront in 2027.
In the meantime, barbecue fans looking for their fix can still find plenty of sauce-covered action nearby. While Oshawa takes a breather, other local favourites like the Whitby Ribfest and the returning Bowmanville Ribfest are still slated to bring the heat later this summer.
