As the warm weather sets in and the flowers start to bloom, spring activities come to life. Just outside Toronto, the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) in Burlington is hosting a seasonal floral showcase that offers a refreshing escape. From January 31 to April 6, 2026, the indoor gardens are featuring Bloomland in Oz, an exhibit that draws on L. Frank Baum’s classic story to create a colourful and fragrant environment.
The exhibit uses over 25,000 real flowers to build a setting inspired by the Land of Oz. Visitors walk through climate-controlled spaces filled with botanical interpretations of familiar scenes and characters. The path leads to a large-scale recreation of the Emerald City, providing a noticeable contrast to the winter conditions outside. For those interested in an evening visit, RBG also hosts Bloomland in Oz: After Dark. After Dark is a 19+ event that presents the floral displays in a different setting.

Alongside the floral arrangements, the RBG is presenting a visual arts exhibition called Of Wonders Wild and New. This companion exhibit looks at the themes of Oz through contemporary woodworking. It features pieces by six artists from Canada, Six Nations, Italy, and Spain, as well as members of the Ontario Wood Carving Association.
The woodwork in the exhibition often reflects on environmental themes, which ties into the RBG’s role in managing 2,193 acres of land and ecosystems. For example, artist Renée Condo incorporates Mi’gmaq cosmology into her work to examine the connections between living things and the importance of environmental care.

Whether you are interested in the original story, the art, or simply looking for an activity to do, the combination of Bloomland in Oz and Of Wonders Wild and New provides a worthwhile destination. It is an opportunity to spend time in a space focused on nature and creativity.
