All they want for Christmas is a letter.
The holidays are typically the most wonderful time of the year, a season that is best spent around those we love. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, not everyone has the luxury of seeing their loved ones this year. This is especially the case for seniors living at retirement homes who are generally at higher risk of severe illness from the virus. In a festive act of kindness, one retirement home in Ontario is doing something special for its senior residents.
“Will you be my Christmas pen pal?” reads a sign held by dozens of seniors in photos taken at Symphony Senior Living Orleans, a retirement and assisted living facility in Orléans, Ontario. This adorable ask by the seniors for people to write them letters is part of a Christmas Pen Pal Program started by the facility. It was shared on Facebook this month and has been receiving widespread love and support.
The letters have already been flooding in for the seniors and it warms our hearts to see how many are exemplifying the true meaning behind the season of giving.
We are so thankful for everyone who has sent in cards and letter so far … our residents are enjoying reading them, sorting them and are so excited when more show up! Keep them coming !

Want to take part and send a senior some extra holiday cheer? All you have to do is write any of the residents a letter and mail it to the facility. If you are having trouble picking who to write to, just address the letter to ‘Dear Symphony Resident’ and the facility will hand your letter out to a resident who needs some.
