Silver Heron Farm opened in 2020 and has quickly become a favourite escape for animal lovers just outside Toronto. The stars are its gentle herd of shaggy Highland cows and playful alpacas. The farm is also home to Belted Galloways, Lowline Angus, Hereford crosses, plus pigs, chickens, ducks, and rabbits.
Visits last about 45 minutes and take place right in the pastures, making this a truly hands-on experience. You’ll be able to pet, feed, and snap photos with the animals up close, with treats provided by the farm.
Visits are by appointment on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Tuesday evening appointments also available seasonally. The farm accommodates groups of up to 10 to 12 people, making it a great choice for birthdays, family outings, or a relaxed date.
Beyond animal visits, the farm also hosts alpaca picnics, alpaca yoga sessions, and paint-and-pet experiences where cows and alpacas roam nearby as you create your artwork.
Before heading home, stop by the farm shop to browse handmade alpaca fleece products, locally made gifts, free-range chicken and duck eggs, and seasonal pasture-raised meat chickens.
Just over an hour from downtown Toronto, the scenic drive through Durham Region’s rolling countryside feels like part of the escape. Book ahead, bring your camera, and get ready for plenty of memorable encounters with the farm’s friendly Highland cows and alpacas.
