A brand-new, sprawling sports destination is arriving in Toronto this winter, bringing world-class athletic amenities to the former Downsview Airport lands.
The Sports Complex at YZD is set to make its debut in the coming months, transforming over 200,000 square feet of former airfield space into an active hub for indoor and outdoor recreation.
From year-round indoor sports domes to multi-use turf areas, visitors can look forward to staying active through the chillier months with an impressive array of activities. Soccer fans can hit the pitch across two 75,000-square-foot fields, including a year-round domed field and an open outdoor field, anchored by North Toronto Soccer alongside SportStars.
If racquet sports are more your style, Premier Racquet Clubs will operate a dedicated 50,000-square-foot indoor facility featuring seven tennis courts, six permanent pickleball courts, and one of Canada’s premier dedicated padel destinations. The hub will also host popular multi-sport leagues organized by JAM Sports and Community Sports Partners.
Developed by Field Recreation Inc., the ambitious project directly tackles Toronto’s growing demand for playing space by offering high-calibre athletic infrastructure just north of the 401 and Yorkdale Shopping Centre.
Beyond organized leagues, the complex is putting locals front and centre with weekly free-access hours reserved for neighbourhood groups, seniors, and nearby schools like Downsview Secondary School. Visitors will also find affordable on-site parking and round-the-clock safety amenities on site.
The Sports Complex marks the latest milestone in Northcrest Developments’ multi-decade reimagining of the 370-acre YZD site, helping turn the historic airport grounds into a vibrant, community-oriented gathering space long before full-scale neighbourhood construction begins.
The Sports Complex at YZD will be located at 2 Hanover Road, just off the historic runways in North York, and is scheduled to open its doors to the public later this winter.
You can keep an eye on upcoming league registrations and discover more details on the YZD website.
