Fans of the hit sci-fi series rejoice: the first ever Stranger Things play is coming to London’s West End! While we don’t have an exact date, the spin-off is set to grace the stage of Phoenix Theatre at the end of the year, recounting a brand new side of the story we thought we knew so well.
The new script created by the Duffer Brothers, Kate Trefry and Jack Thorne will transport you back to Hawkins circa 1959, “before the world turned upside down.” A plane ticket to London might not be the most affordable, but it would definitely keep us satiated before the release of season 5 in 2024. Here’s what you need to know about this new Stranger Things play before packing your bags:
While the original Stranger Things story is set in 1986, this new live chapter will be taking place a quarter century before then. Based on an original story by the Duffers and Jack Thorne, the play will give us insights into the lives of some of our favorite characters — namely Joyce and Jim Hopper — before new student Henry Creel arrives in town, haunted by the shadows of the past.
Producer Stephen Daldry, who is also working on this live show, supposedly spent years working with illusion performers and tricksters to brainstorm special effects for the play. The Duffer Brothers explained:
Collaborating with the brilliant Stephen Daldry has been nothing short of inspiring, and Kate Trefry has written a play that is at turns surprising, scary, and heartfelt. You will meet endearing new characters, as well as very familiar ones, on a journey into the past that sets the groundwork for the future of Stranger Things.
No tickets are currently available for purchase, and we don’t have an exact date. So before score your seat for Stranger Things: The First Shadow, why not pay the Stranger Things Experience a visit — right here in Toronto? You’ll get to uncover your own superpowers to save Hawkins from the grips of the Upside Down before indulging in yummy food and drinks.
