TAIWANFest: Self Portraits of Formosa is a cultural Canadian Taiwanese festival bringing art, food, and performances to Harbourfront Centre from August 25th to 27th.
Starting in 2019, the Dialogue with Asia series has covered Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea among others. This year, the focus is on Vietnam with multicultural performances and exhibitions you can enjoy. The festival tackles questions of colonialism, identity, and independence through various art forms across the span of three days. Here’s how to enjoy this August weekend at TAIWANFest.
A few of their feature performances include a lively musical performance by the TAIWANFest Orchestra called Voyage Across the Pacific, the song “No one is an outsider,” performed by Taiwanese Amis musician Panai Kusui, and the National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan (NCO) performing music dedicated to folklore and heritage. The full program is available here.
Aside from music, there are a ton of art exhibitions and demonstrations of traditional art practices like bamboo weaving taught by experts.
And of course, there will be a ton of great food vendors showing off what makes Taiwanese food so great.
You can find out how to get tickets on their website.
