One of Toronto’s most iconic summer street festivals is officially making its long-awaited return to the city this weekend.
For more than three decades, Taste of the Danforth has been a staple of the city’s warm-weather calendar, transforming the heart of Greektown into a lively celebration of food, music, and community spirit.
After a two-year hiatus, Canada’s largest street festival secured $400,000 in emergency funding, and is set to fill the streets once again with the irresistible aroma of grilled souvlaki and fresh loukoumades. Spanning Danforth Avenue from Broadview to Jones Avenues, the three-day celebration is expected to welcome over 1.5 million visitors.
While authentic Greek staples like gyros, spanakopita, and baklava remain at the very core of the weekend, the festival will also highlight the neighbourhood’s evolving culinary landscape with international flavours ranging from Mexican to Vietnamese. Local restaurants along the stretch will be rolling out special street bites starting at just $6, giving guests a chance to sample a little bit of everything as they wander.
Beyond the endless food options, the festival grounds will feature four free entertainment stages packed with live music and cultural performances, along with six interactive experience zones designed for attendees of all ages. The event is also completely free to attend.
Taste of the Danforth will take over Danforth Avenue from Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9. Festival hours run from 6:00 p.m. to midnight on Friday, 12:00 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, and 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sunday.
