One of Toronto’s most beloved summer traditions is officially preparing for a massive comeback, and it’s getting a major boost from some of the province’s biggest decision-makers.
After being sidelined for the past two years, the Taste of the Danforth is set to return to the city’s east end in 2026. The news comes after Premier Doug Ford and Mayor Olivia Chow both pledged government funding to ensure the beloved Greek festival finally hits the streets again.

During a press conference on February 18, the Premier went off-script to share his nostalgia for the event, committing provincial support to revitalize the festival. Mayor Chow quickly echoed the sentiment, confirming that the City of Toronto has already earmarked funds in the municipal budget to help get the souvlaki back on the grill.
For decades, the Taste of the Danforth has been a staple of the Toronto summer, drawing over a million visitors to Greektown for a weekend of music, dancing, and, of course, unbeatable street food. However, the festival faced a rocky road recently, with financial hurdles and infrastructure challenges leading to cancellations in 2024 and 2025.
The 2026 edition is currently slated to take over Danforth Avenue from August 7 to 9. Organizers are promising a big Greek party that stays true to the festival’s roots, featuring live performances and plenty of family-friendly activities spanning the 1.6-kilometre stretch from Broadview to Jones Avenue.
While specific funding amounts haven’t been finalized, the joint commitment from the province and the city is a promising sign for the festival that many feared was gone for good.
