Bundle up, Toronto! Following a mild start to the week, things are about to take a turn as we move into the weekend.
According to The Weather Network, southern Ontario is about to experience the “coldest air of the entire year”, along with snow forecasted to close out the week.
Temperatures this weekend are expected to stay below freezing, with 2-5 cm of snow expected for most of the region. Areas near the west end of Lake Ontario however could see over 5 cm of accumulation, due to the lake effect.
Much of the region will experience the coldest day of the year on Saturday night, potentially reaching – 17 C. With the wind chill, it will feel more like the – 20s.
2024’s record for 2024 was recorded back on January 17 at – 15.5C.
Sunday will be less windy than Saturday night, but will remain below – 10 C. However, the sun is expected to stick around in the GTA at least!
Temperatures will warm up again moving into next week with the arrival of a warm front, which will affect the region as we approach Christmas Eve.
As for if Toronto will experience a white Christmas or not, it is still too early to say!
