The iconic duo behind beloved and celebrity-favourite Toronto restaurant PAI have just opened an exciting new destination for Thai street food and karaoke in the heart of downtown.
Restauranteurs Chef Nuit and Jeff Regular are embracing the spirit of Northern Thailand at Tha Phae Tavern, which made its debut just last month at 221 Richmond Street West.
Named after Thailand’s iconic Tha Phae Gate, Tha Phae Tavern draws inspiration from the cultural crossroads of Chiang Mai, paying homage to the diverse textures and bold flavours of the street food you find there.
On the menu, guests will find a range of Thai bar snacks and shareable plates that blend traditional ingredients with contemporary culinary creativity. Unlike PAI, you won’t find Pad Thai or fried rice on the menu here; rather, flavourful dishes like Thai-Style Deep Fried Chicken and Tom Yum Fries take center stage, as well as snacks like crunchy pork rinds and baby green mango which will awaken taste buds you may never know you had.
Complementing the food is a curated drink program that features handcrafted cocktails and alcohol-free options designed to pair perfectly with the flavorful menu. From their unique pink dragon sangria featuring dragon fruit and hibiscus grenadine to the familiar flavours of their Thai Tea Slush, Tha Phae Tavern has some inventive cocktails you won’t find elsewhere in the city.
The setting of Tha Phae Tavern is nearly as immersive as its food and drink. The interior design draws heavily from the textures, colors, and architecture of Northern Thailand, showcasing rich, warm tones, intricate patterns, and a cozy yet eclectic atmosphere that transports you out of the city and into the heart of Chiang Mai’s bustling nightlife.
The space also features two private karaoke rooms within Rod Daeng Karaoke Bar, offering an intimate yet fun setting for group sing-alongs, birthdays, and private celebrations. Guests can also enjoy other entertainment features within the main restaurant space, including a photo booth to capture memories and vintage-style claw machines—a nostalgic nod to the lively night markets of Thailand.
Tha Phae Tavern is now open six days a week from 4 p.m. to midnight from Tuesday through Thursday and Sundays, from 4 p.m. til late on Friday and Saturdays, and closed Mondays.
Whether you’re looking for your new favourite karaoke destination or want to explore the vibrant flavors of Thailand, Tha Phae Tavern won’t disappoint!
