For those who haven’t yet laced up those skates at one of Toronto’s outdoor ice rinks, this spectacular trail might be the one to entice you.
The Bentway is not only one of downtown’s largest skating rinks – it also goes right under the Gardiner Expressway, where you can glide around the 220m figure-eight path beneath a new art installation inspired by the Northern lights.
Back for its sixth year, the Bentway officially reopens on December 16 and will run until February 19, 2024.
Skaters can enjoy free hot chocolate nights on Mondays beginning January 8, free skate rentals on Friday evenings starting January 12, skating lessons, and the return of the famous Polar Bear Skate on December 31, where participants strip down to their underwear or swimsuits and skate for a good cause.
There is also skate sharpening available anytime during opening hours. For those who don’t own their own equipment, you can rent skates for a fee, unless you come on a free skate rental Friday.
If you get hungry, you can grab a snack or drink at the onsite Concession Stand.
The Bentway will be open daily from 12p.m. – 9p.m. until January 7, and from 5p.m. – 9 p.m. during weekdays until February 19. Weekend hours will remain 12p.m. – 9p.m.
When: December 16, 2023 – February 19, 2024
