There is a particular kind of morning that is only available in The Junction, and it goes like this: you park somewhere on Dundas Street West, you walk into the first antique shop without a plan, you come out ninety minutes later holding something you did not know you needed, and then you do it again.
The neighbourhood has always had a strong antique culture. Dundas between Keele and Runnymede has more independently owned vintage and antique dealers per block than anywhere else in the city. The addition of a monthly outdoor flea market a decade ago made the whole thing into a destination.
The Junction Flea is the anchor event. A curated monthly outdoor market that runs on the second Sunday of each month through the summer and into fall, near Dundas Street West.
The vendor list is tightly curated, and the mix consistently delivers. Think stacks of vinyl, furniture from the 1950s through the 1970s, glassware and ceramics, vintage clothing, handmade jewellery, and the kind of peculiar objects that make no sense to anyone else but seem like a completely reasonable addition to your apartment. The people-watching is excellent. Admission is free.
Permanent Strip
The permanent strip is just as important. The Art of Demolition on Dundas is the neighbourhood’s most beloved stop: eclectic, dense, and staffed by people who know what they are looking at.
Arts Market‘s Junction location dedicates its entire basement floor to vintage items, separate from the artisan and maker booths upstairs. Suitcase Antiques, Eclectic Revival, and Passion for the Past round out the strip, and none of them require a special event to justify the visit. These are the shops that turn a half-hour errand into a two-hour afternoon without any apology.
On June 27, the annual Taste of the Junction takes over the Green P and No Frills parking lots at Pacific Avenue and Dundas from 11am to 7pm.
This year it lands during FIFA World Cup week, which gives the neighbourhood an unusual international energy on top of its usual west-end Saturday personality. Thirty-five-plus curated vendors, local food, DJ music, and a street that feels genuinely alive for the entire day.
Check @thejunctionflea on Instagram to confirm monthly flea dates before you go. They also post the vendor list in advance, which lets you know whether the ceramic jewellery maker or the person with the mid-century lamp collection is set up for that particular Sunday. Arrive by 10am. Bring cash for the smaller vendors. Leave the afternoon open.
