Forget greasy wings and plastic pitchers – Toronto’s sports bar scene just got a major upgrade.
The Playbook Commons, now open on the ground floor of Hotel X, is reimagining the way we watch the game, offering an elevated dining experience that blends the energy of a classic steakhouse and the comfort of Italian-American dining.
As the latest venture from Harlo Entertainment, the hospitality team behind Toronto hotspots like Kasa Moto, Valerie, and Roses Social, The Playbook Commons brings a refreshing new concept to the city. With seating for 180, the restaurant features floor-to-ceiling windows, warm tones, plush textures, and an expansive layout that effortlessly balances elegance with approachability.
What sets this venue apart is its immersive sports theatre concept. Multiple large-screen TVs are seamlessly integrated throughout the space, offering a premium view from every seat. Whether you’re watching a Jays game, a Formula 1 race, or a major tournament, you won’t miss a moment.
When the game isn’t on, the space transform into a digital art gallery, featuring The Wild Within, a stunning digital art series by Ryan Koopmans and Alice Wexell.
For private events, the restaurant offers several stylish, more intimate spaces, ideal for corporate dinners, milestone celebrations, or casual yet upscale gatherings.
In the kitchen, Chef Jia Zou leads a menu rooted in Italian-American comfort and classic steakhouse fare.
“Our goal is simple — to serve food that brings people together. Whether it’s a casual bite or a special night out, we want guests to enjoy the experience and feel at home,” Zou states in the press release.
As for what’s on the menu, you’ll find handcrafted pastas, elevated seafood plates, and, of course, prime cuts of steak like an AAA porterhouse or 8-ounce bone-in filet. Don’t skip the Hokkaido Scallop Ceviche or Spicy Vodka Rigatoni, personal highlights from our visit!
The drink program is just as impressive. Cocktails are creative and crafted with care; try the Rose Coloured Glasses, a smooth blend of Grey Goose, St-Germain, Aperol, egg whites, lemon, and honey, or opt for The Late Shift, made with fig-infused Johnnie Walker Black, Guinness syrup, and wild orange bitters, smoked right at your table. Wine lovers will appreciate their curated global list, and premium beer is always on tap for traditionalists.
The Playbook Commons not only caters to sports fans, but to anyone looking for an amazing meal in a stylish destination that captures the best of Toronto’s culinary and cultural spirit. Find out more or book your table here on their website!
