With the waterfall capital of the world just an hour’s drive from Toronto, Hamilton is a popular draw for outdoor enthusiasts in the summer and fall months. However, winter is just as magical if not more, when many of the falls freeze over creating a stunning spectacle.
Thanks to this January’s frigid temperatures, one of the region’s most popular cascades is attracting visitors who venture out to see its frozen beauty.
Tiffany Falls, a 21-meter cascade located off the Bruce Trail in Ancaster, has endured enough consistently low temperatures recently to freeze, creating a captivating ice formation.
Luckily for visitors, Tiffany Falls is also one of the more easily accessible falls to visit, found just a five minute walk or so from the parking lot.
The short scenic hike leads you through a forested trail, complete with two bridges that crisscross the stream. You’ll finally arrive at a wooden viewing platform which provides an epic view of the frozen cascade and ice formations extending from the surrounding cliffs.
For the adventurous, Tiffany Falls is also a popular spot for ice climbing when conditions permit. Companies like OneAxe Pursuits offers classes for all skill levels, letting you try a truly unique winter activity.
Tiffany Falls Conservation Area is open to visit seven days a week, from sunrise to sunset. Given its popularity, the park recommends visiting during off-peak times, such as early mornings or weekdays.
