Tim Hortons lovers, get ready – something new and exciting is coming to Toronto this summer!
The beloved Canadian coffeehouse and restaurant announced in a press release today that they will soon revolutionize the city’s coffee culture with the launch of the world’s largest floating coffee shop, opening this summer just off the shores of Toronto Island.
The first of its kind, the giant café-on-water is set to anchor in Lake Ontario, offering Torontonians the chance to enjoy their beloved double-double with the epic city skyline views as a backdrop. With limited food options on the island, visitors and residents will soon be able to stop and pick up their favourite caffeinated beverage, pastry, or lunch item before continuing to the beach or Centre Island.
Dubbed the ‘Coffeeboat’, the seasonal café will only be accessible via water, be it on a water taxi, motorized boat, kayak, or paddleboard.
According to Tim Hortons executives, the Coffeeboat is designed to be a fully functional café built onto a custom-designed floating platform. The structure will feature a spacious deck where you can catch some rays this summer, comfortable seating areas, and a full-service counter where customers can order their favorite beverages and snacks.
Additionally, a designated ‘To-Go’ window service will allow paddleboarders and boaters to grab their morning brew without stepping foot on land.
“Toronto is known for both its coffee obsession and its love for the waterfront,” said a Tim Hortons spokesperson. “So why not combine the two? The Coffeeboat is our way of giving back to the community and redefining how people enjoy their daily Timmies.”
Customers can expect classic Tim Hortons menu items, along with a few exclusive, Coffeeboat-themed merch items unique to the location.
The café will be located 500 metres off of Ward’s Island. If you take the Toronto Island Ferry across, you will be able to rent kayaks or stand-up paddleboards to reach the Tim Hortons.
The Coffeeboat is expected to launch on June 20, 2025—just in time for the first day of summer. But given the date, some caffeine-loving Canadians are already questioning if this announcement is just an elaborate April Fool’s joke. Only time will tell!
