Toronto’s unofficial, devious mascot strikes again, allegedly behind today’s huge power outage that affected thousands of customers in the downtown area.
Impacting areas in and around St. Clair Avenue W to Gerrard Street W and Avenue Road to the Don Valley Parkway, much of the area has been left in the dark since around 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, February 1.
According to Hydro One, the blackout was the result of a raccoon coming into contact with their equipment at a downtown station.
As of 9:30 p.m., approximately 7000 customers were affected, with the estimated time of restoration not until 6:03 a.m.
Toronto Hydro says they are working closely with Hydro One to resolve the issue and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
So far, no injuries have been reported – though the status of the raccoon is to be determined.
