The recall affects three brands: Farm Boy, L’Ancêtre, and Life Smart, all linked to Fromagerie L’Ancêtre Inc. According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the recall was triggered by its testing results, and no illnesses have been reported in connection with the affected products.
The affected products include five Farm Boy organic cheeses in 190- to 200-gram packages: Swiss, medium cheddar, old cheddar, extra sharp cheddar, and three-year-old cheddar, all with a best-before date of July 30, 2027. Life Smart’s 200-gram part-skim mozzarella is also recalled, with a best-before date of March 30, 2027.
L’Ancêtre’s recalled products include a 200-gram Swiss cheese, a 200-gram shredded mozzarella-cheddar blend, and one- and two-kilogram bags of shredded cheddar, mozzarella, and Swiss. The shredded products carry best-before dates between December 2026 and January 2027.
Not all products from these brands are affected. Consumers should check the UPC, best-before date, and additional package code against the details in the CFIA’s official recall notice. Affected products should not be eaten, served, sold, or distributed and should be thrown away or returned to the store.
Listeria-contaminated food can look and smell normal. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headaches, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of serious illness. Anyone who becomes ill after eating a recalled product should contact a healthcare provider. The CFIA’s investigation is ongoing, and additional recalls may follow.
