One of Toronto’s most beloved bakeries has just earned major bragging rights, and the victory is oh-so-sweet!
Over the past weekend, Toronto’s Circles and Squares Bakery swept the top awards at the 2025 Ontario’s Best Butter Tart Festival, held annually in Midland, Ontario.
The bakery was crowned first place in both the Traditional and Wild Style categories, as well as the coveted Best in Show title – an achievement no other bakery has pulled off in the festival’s 22-year history.
The 12th edition of Ontario’s Best Butter Tart Festival was held on June 14, 2025, and is the largest event of its kind in the world. This year, the festival brought in over 100,000 visitors, 200+ vendors, and more than 300,000 butter tarts sold in a single day.
Last year, Toronto bakery Pie Commission brought home the top prizes for the Best in Show and 1st Place Professional Traditional Winner.
However, Circles and Squares knocked it out of the park this year, with their Maple Pecan Tart earning first in the Traditional category, and Coconut Cream Tart filled with rich butter tart filling and topped with whipped coconut cream winning the Wild Style category.
Circles and Squares is no stranger to the spotlight, having previously won the Traditional category in 2023 and placing in multiple years prior. But this year’s clean sweep cements their reputation as a true butter tart heavyweight.
If you want to get your hands on the best butter tart in Ontario, you can find Circles and Squares at two locations in the city: 197 Bartley Drive in East York, or 1909 Yonge Street in Davisville.
