Live music on the islands – what could be better?
This weekend, the Toronto Folk Festival is taking over Ward’s Island from August 21 through August 23, bringing a three-day celebration of indie talent, culture, and community right to the waterfront.
With two distinct outdoor stages, the WIA Pavilion and The Outpost will both come alive with incredible music. Featuring dozens of remarkable acts, this year’s stacked lineup includes performances by Canadian indie and folk favourites like Abigail Lapell, Ahmed Moneka & Friends, Bobby Dove, Burs, Kobotown, and Mia Kelly. Alongside live music, attendees can enjoy captivating dance showcases from the Mexican Legacy Dancers and Métis Jiggers & Fiddlers, as well as hands-on creative workshops.
The festival kicks off on Friday evening with a special Pay-What-You-Can Community Night. Weekend passes are available for $99, while single-day tickets for Saturday or Sunday are priced at $60, giving attendees of all ages access to a lush, park-filled getaway just minutes from the city core.
Beyond the performances, guests can explore curated market stalls featuring local artisans, alongside a variety of food and drink options on-site. If you’re looking to sample the island’s neighbourhood dining scene, nearby local hot spots like the Island Café and Riviera will also be open throughout the festivities.
The Toronto Folk Festival takes place across 20 Withrow St. (WIA Pavilion) and 101 Cibola Ave. (The Outpost) on Ward’s Island. Festival-goers can catch a ferry from Jack Layton Ferry Terminal or hop on a water taxi directly to the island.
