On Tuesday, October 27, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Toronto Metropolitan University’s Urban Farm is hosting a Hot Compost, Vermicompost, and Compost Tea Workshop at the ENG Rooftop Farm, located on the fifth floor at 245 Church Street. The session covers composting basics, including how hot composting works, followed by a look at a vermicompost bin in action.
Compost plays a key role in the Urban Farm’s ecological practices, enriching soil with beneficial microbes and transforming crop residue and weeds into nutrients for future growth. Part of the farm’s 2026 summer and fall field workshop series, the session offers a hands-on look at the sustainable methods used on site.
Attendees will take home compost tea to nourish their own plants, making it a useful takeaway for anyone growing herbs or greenery at home. Tickets cost $10 plus HST for students and $15 plus HST for the public, with registration available through TMU’s eMarketplace via the workshop page.
