Toronto, consider this your official dare! The Bentway’s boldest and barest winter ritual is making its fearless return this weekend, and you’re invited to strip down to your skivvies and skate into the final moments of 2025 with the annual Polar Bear Skate.
Each year, hundreds of brave locals take to The Bentway’s iconic skate trail under The Gardiner Expressway wearing little more than their underwear, making one invigorating lap to close out the year in true Toronto style. If you’ve ever wanted to try the city’s coolest (and cheekiest) winter tradition, this is your chance!

This year’s event will take place on December 28, 2025, with registration beginning promptly at 12 p.m. At 1 p.m. sharp, the Polar Bear Skate will welcome skaters to take the ice, lasting just 5 to 10 minutes as participants make their rounds.
If you’re thinking of joining the fun, be sure to sign up early, as space is limited and has reached capacity in prior years! Skaters will also have to sign a waiver in advance. If you don’t own your own equipment, skates are available to rent for $12.99.

While the event is undeniably fun, it also supports a crucial community need. This year, The Bentway will be collecting new or gently used shoes, with a strong demand for winter footwear. All donations go to New Circles Community Services, supporting local individuals and families living on limited incomes.
Not brave enough to bare it? No problem- you’re still invited to bundle up, cheer on participants, and contribute to the clothing drive. The unique skating trail officially opens for the season on December 20, and you can skate for free daily until February 16.
Registration is now open on their website here!
