Toronto certainly has no shortage of incredible hotels to stay at, but if you’re looking for somewhere that truly reflects the spirit of the city, we’d love to introduce the Union Hotel!
The independent lifestyle property has just opened its doors at 60 York Street, a prime location considering it’s found mere steps away from Union Station and a short walk from some of Toronto’s best attractions and cultural landmarks.
Featuring 189 rooms, the property incorporates uniquely Toronto-inspired touches throughout its space, from its architecture to its culinary offerings.
Brought to life by FRANK Architecture & Interiors, the hotel blends modern elegance with nostalgic elements. The 12-story charcoal brick exterior is accented with expansive windows, while inside, the décor showcases a mix of warm, inviting tones and quirky details that nod to the city’s diverse history.
Guests will find the work of local artists throughout the hotel, including murals that pay homage to Toronto’s past, such as Emily Mae Rose’s raccoon tribute and Victoria Day’s depiction of Union Station.
The staff uniforms are custom-made with upcycled materials, designed by local industrial designer Gino Marocco reflective of the area’s textile industry heritage.
Within the lobby’s UH Marketplace, you can find locally made goods, snacks, and signature merchandise for a memento to take home.
There are four distinct room styles to choose from: the Chic, Groovy, Swanky, and the Posh Suite, each featuring custom-designed amenities and art. Guests can expect details such as hand-crafted furniture, upcycled fabric tote bags, toiletries from Routine Natural Beauty, and unique hospitality touches, including third-wave coffee setups and even custom-curated books.
Union Hotel also offers a variety of communal spaces to explore beyond the rooms. Get your caffeine fix at Humble Donkey Café and Lounge, an inviting spot that transitions seamlessly from morning espresso service to evening cocktails. It also serves coffee from Toronto’s beloved Sam James Coffee Bar for yet another hyper-local touch.
“The 6ix” on the second floor is a social space with an outdoor courtyard, providing a setting for both private events and casual gatherings. You also never have to miss a workout at the hotel’s fitness centre, equipped with weight training, yoga, and wellness offerings.
In a time when Canadians are leaning more into supporting local, Union Hotel comes at the perfect time, setting itself apart as an experience rooted in creativity, individuality, and meaningful connections.
