The August long weekend is upon us, and if you’re looking for something different to do, check this out!
On Friday, August 1, the Ward’s Island Fire Parade is back for its 38th year, bringing an evening filled with lights, puppets, stilt-walkers, and live music to the Toronto Islands.
Art installation meets performance at this unforgettable experience, all created by local residents and artists.
The elaborate, lantern-lit procession commences just after sunset around 8:30 p.m. near the Ward’s Island clubhouse, which will then wind through the community before culminating with an epic fire show at the beach.
Visitors are also encouraged to join the fun by bringing their own lanterns. To get there, you can either catch the ferry or a water taxi over to Ward’s Island.
Head over early and enjoy an afternoon at the beach, or grab some food and drinks before the parade at the Island Cafe.
Cash donations are also welcomed in support of Shadowland’s arts and youth programming.
