When you go to a flamenco show, you don’t just watch the performance, you feel it. Many concertgoers fall under the spell of an intense sensation known as the ‘duende‘. It’s a deep connection between the audience and the performers on stage, a feeling that transcends language and culture. At ‘We call it Flamenco’ in Toronto, the spirit of this centuries-old art form unfolds amid a sea of roses, and the duende enchants those lucky enough to experience it.

What is ‘We call it Flamenco’?
‘We call it Flamenco’ is a live dance and music show that transports audiences to the traditional tablaos (flamenco venues) of Andalusia. The experience is an ode to the power and tradition of flamenco, as dancers wearing trajes de flamenca (flamenco dresses) and mantones (manila shawls) stomp and twirl to traditional flamenco songs, all performed by a guitarist and a singer.
Flamenco, its palos and the show
Think of flamenco as a tree, and each of its branches as a palo. Each palo is a variation of flamenco, and there are around 50 in existence. These variations have their own rhythm, structure and lyrical themes, and at this show, six palos will be performed on the night. Cantiñas, bulería, solea and more will dazzle on the rose-covered stage, bringing the magic of Cádiz, Huelva and more flowery flamenco towns to Toronto.
