It’s almost that time of year when a number of Torontonians will once again strip down for the international clothing-optional World Naked Bike Ride!
Hundreds of people now congregate for the annual event which originated in Canada’s own Vancouver, B.C., and now takes place in 80 cities worldwide. This year, riders will come together for the World Naked Bike Ride on June 14, 2024.
According to the website, the ride is a “global protest against the over usage of oil and urban pollution, promoting greater cycling safety on our roads, and encouraging body freedom for everyone.”
The completely legal event has no cost or registration to join, and with their signature motto “bare as you dare”, you can wear as much or as little as you like, be it your birthday suit, body paint, bathing suit, or fully clothed.
Participants are asked to meet at least 1 hour before the ride kicks off at Coronation Park at 1 p.m. You’re also encouraged to bring your own body paint if you wish, and to decorate your bike with your message.
The ride will follow a route along several major streets in the downtown core. This year, several new stops have been added in addition to Sugar Beach ant HTO Beach, including the CN Tower before heading back to Queen’s Quay and ending at Coronation Park.
All you have to do is show up with your bike and helmet, and away you go! Some may also show up on skateboards, scooters, and other methods of human-powered transport.
For those who don’t have their own bike and will be renting a city bike, the website suggests you cover the seat for safety and sanitation. Also, please bring a change of clothes for after the ride for your commute home.
Don’t forget to lather on the sunscreen if it’s a sunny day outside!
